August Playlist

Cover design for August playlist.

Was August a busy month for anyone else? Even though life still seems slow, the weeks have passed by at an alarming rate. Perhaps starting the month off by moving wasn’t helpful but it was definitely positive & a much needed change in my life.

My goal was to ensure I published this playlist by the end of the month, so I suppose… achievement almost unlocked there.

And finally, a couple of these tracks were taken directly from one of my favourite winemaker’s playlists he released to coincide with the release of his new summer wines (shoutout to Ursa Major Winery), but I have no shame about that because they’ve made up a large part of my summer listening habits.

July Playlist

Cover design for July playlist.

For the month of July, I chose to put together a playlist mainly focused on BIPOC artists, in the hopes that I can, either consciously or subconsciously, influence my listening habits going forward.

Some of these songs are recent discoveries from the last few months while others are from records that I didn’t pay enough attention to when they were released (which is the entire reason for my playlist project this year), but I do acknowledge how important it is to diversify my music tastes.

Now I am aware that just putting a playlist together doesn’t really do much, but I am going to make an effort to directly support each of this artists featured here (& others whose art I enjoy ) when I can in the future.

June Playlist

Cover design for June playlist.

Here is a playlist of songs I’ve listened to a copious amount or discovered in the last month. For the artwork, I was inspired by the fact that it seemingly rained about 25 of the 30 days in June.

If I do this whole playlist thing again next year, I am definitely leaning toward just giving the playlists a name & not organizing them by month… that way I won’t feel bad if I am late in posting them.

I have been mostly obsessed with Alex G, Hazel English & Toro y Moi but tried to diversify my listening habits as much as I could. Please let me know if you give it a listen to let me know what you think!

May Playlist

Cover design for May playlist.

May 2020: Start Again

I had an entire post written about how life has been during the month of May, how it’s been working from home, along with my general overall feelings & coping mechanisms. Unfortunately, in light of the events of the past week, I have not really felt anything other than profound sadness, unease & frustration with the state of our world right now.

That being said, I have this playlist completed for over a week now & have just been sitting on it, hopefully by sharing, you might discover a new track or two that helps you in the way it has helped me.

Lately: May 2020

The warmer weather has been welcome as an excuse for early evening walks, but I think it is fair to say how obvious it is that I’ve been spending an extended amount of time lately wandering through my own neighbourhood & staying a lot closer to home than I’m used to – the result is a cluster of images that end up focusing, albeit loosely, on a similar theme. As much as I enjoy making images as part of my every day life, & whatever routines that currently consists of, I find myself longing for different subject matter – that is, to engage & feel connected with other people.  With that, here is a small sample collection of photographs from late April until now.
